A lot of bloggers, and legacy news types, keep using the term recession. I don't think that word means what they think it means.
After 30 some years of having the PC police ready to throw people to the ground and handcuff them for daring to cross some imaginary line, people are just afraid to call a spade a spade. So, for all of you out there still insisting on calling this a recession.
Now, how about we just knock off the bullshit and call what we are in a depression. We left the recession way the hell behind back in September of 2008.
Update: Okay, if definitions won't convince you, how about a graph.

Recession: Economics. a period of an economic contraction, sometimes limited in scope or duration. So, you tell me; which of the two definitions above more accurately describes today's economic state?
Depression: Economics. a period during which business, employment, and stock-market values decline severely or remain at a very low level of activity.
